UN agencies are teamed up with Microsoft to support Ugandan enterprises through technology in Uganda.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has tied up with Microsoft to launch the project for rural Ugandan enterprises. The project, launched in Kampala, is aimed to support micro, small and medium-sized Ugandan businesses through the use of ICT. In the first phase of the project is to be implemented in six District Business Information Centres, which will provide rural business to operate them with integrated solutions, instruction in technology and entrepreneurial skills, and Internet access. The second phase of the project will increase the number of these centres to eight. This combined effort between the Vienna-based UNIDO and Microsoft also seeks to increase the participation of women in rural enterprises through ICT and business management training.
