All police stations in the State of Tamil Nadu in India will be equipped with computers by next month. They will also be provided with fax machines and “simple gym equipment” to keep the police “fighting fit at all times.”
Following the footsteps of Karnataka, Lucknow, the capital city of the state of Uttar Pradesh in India will become the first city in the state to become a model centre for e-Governance.
The Minister for IT and Communications of India, Mr Dayanidhi Maran said at a national seminar on e-governance in municipalities that a shortcoming of the Indian IT industry was its failure to come up with world-class products. According priority to e-governance plan for improving service delivery to citizens and businesses, he has proposed enabling certification of products in e-governance domain, jointly with the Ministry of Urban Development.
Union minister for communications and information technology, Dayanidhi Maran emphasised the extensive use of ICTs in day-to-day management of urban local bodies to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of their operations.
