In a significant move just before the Puja celebrations, the West Bengal government, led by Mamata Banerjee, has initiated key senior-level transfers within both Kolkata Police and Bengal Police. Devendra Prakash Singh, a 2002 batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the Additional Commissioner of Kolkata Police, bringing the total number of Additional CPs to six. Singh was previously Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Traffic.
Gaurav Sharma, a 2005 batch IPS officer and former IGP of the Special Task Force, has now taken over as IGP Traffic, a critical appointment aimed at improving traffic management and safety during the festive season.

Other significant transfers include Tathagata Basu, DIG-ranked officer from the Police Recruitment Board, who is now transferred to the Police Directorate. Pankaj Kumar Dwivedi has moved from Howrah Special Reserve Police to Special Armed Police as Circle Officer. Ms Pushpa, Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Armed Police, has been reassigned to Howrah Special Reserve Police. Kunwar Bhushan Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police’s Combat Branch, has been transferred to Siliguri Reserve Police.
