EV charging station

In line with the Union Government’s vision to promote electric mobility, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has proposed that Electric Charging vehicle stations should be made compulsory in all new upcoming buildings in the city.

According to media reports, the municipal body’s goal is to make EV charging stations compulsory in the blueprints for all new construction buildings.

According to reports, the AMC is partnering with private entities to establish charging facilities at 81 locations across Ahmedabad.

The charging stations will be set up under flyovers, Kankaria Kids City and Navrangpura Multi-Level Parking. Currently, AMC-owned premises already cater to 15 EV charging stations.

According to the government’s data, the share of Electric Vehicles in total vehicle sales (as of mid-Nov 2023) is below 1 per cent. The government has set a target of achieving a 30 per cent share of EVs in overall vehicle sales by 2030.

The targets set by NITI Aayog include 30 per cent of private cars, 70 per cent of commercial cars, 70 per cent of buses, and 100 per cent of two and three-wheelers by 2030.

In 2019, AMC partnered with Energy Efficiency Services Limited to install EV charging stations in the urban area for ten years. AMC and EESL signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement to jointly install 100 EV charging stations in the city.
