Indian Oil Board

In a strategic move, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has appointed Sujata Sharma, an IAS officer of the 2006 batch, as the new Government Nominee Director on the Board of Indian Oil Corporation Limited. Effective from May 11, this appointment was revealed through a regulatory filing to the stock exchange by Indian Oil on Saturday.

Sharma, hailing from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, currently serves as the Joint Secretary (M&OR) in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. Her academic background is marked by a Law degree and a Ph.D. in Botany, reflecting her diverse expertise.

With an illustrious career, Sharma has held key positions such as Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes in Hyderabad and District Collector in Prakasam, Andhra Pradesh. She has also served as the Additional Chief Electoral Officer and Special Commissioner of Collegiate Education & Technical Education in Andhra Pradesh, and as Special Commissioner of Health & Family Welfare.

At the national level, Sharma has contributed significantly, holding roles like Secretary, Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department in the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and Managing Director at the Pradeshiya Industrial and Investment Corporation of UP Limited (PICUP).


Given her extensive experience in administration and governance, Sharma’s appointment is expected to bring valuable insights and strategic direction to the Board of Indian Oil, aiding the company as it navigates the complexities of the energy sector.
