In a bid to propel Punjab as a leading state in the generation of clean and green energy, the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar on Tuesday. The MoU was signed in the presence of Punjab’s New & Renewable Energy Sources Minister, Mr. Aman Arora, and aims to jointly undertake initiatives for the production of Green Hydrogen and establish a Center of Excellence (CoE) dedicated to advancing E-mobility in the state.

The MoU was formally signed at Punjab Civil Secretariat-1 by Dr. Ravi Bhagat, Chief Executive Officer of PEDA, and Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar.

Under this partnership, PEDA and IIT Ropar will collaboratively develop a Pilot Project to produce Green Hydrogen from Biomass and provide Skill Transfer Training for the workforce through the CoE for the e-mobility sector. Additionally, the establishment of a 1MW Agri-PV Project at IIT Ropar Campus is planned.

Shri Aman Arora expressed his appreciation for IIT Ropar’s efforts in spearheading research and development in Green Hydrogen production. He highlighted that this MoU will pave the way for exploring the electric and connected vehicle landscape, encompassing a wide range of vehicles, including utility vehicles and light commercial vehicles. The Minister emphasised that the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister S Bhagwant Mann, is committed to making the state a trailblazer in the production of clean and sustainable energy.

During the event, Mr. M.P. Singh, Director PEDA, exchanged ideas on undertaking projects related to research and development in the field of Green Hydrogen.

Notable attendees at the signing ceremony included Chairman of Punjab Genco Ltd., Navjot Singh Mandair Jarg, Joint Director of PEDA, Mr. Kulbir Singh Sandhu, Associate Dean (R&D) of IIT Ropar, Dr. Pushpinder P. Singh, and Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Dheeraj K. Mahajan. This partnership between PEDA and IIT Ropar marks a significant milestone in advancing clean energy production and electric mobility in the state of Punjab.
