The Assembly elections have commenced in Haryana and Maharashtra today. As many as 288 and 90 Assembly Constituencies are there in Maharashtra and Haryana respectively. In Uttar Pradesh, bypolls in 11 seats is taking place.
In Maharashtra, BJP is contesting as many as 150 seats and Shiv Sena is contesting 124 seats. Congress is contesting 146 seats, the Nationalist Congress Party on 117 seats. The Sena-BJP alliance currently holds 217 seats, the Congress and the NCP 56 seats.
In Haryana, the major contesting parties are BJP, Congress and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP). As per reports, Chief Minister Manoharlal Khattar aims to win 75 out of 90 seats.
As many as 3,237 candidates are contesting from Maharashtra whereas that of Haryana is 1,169. The number of voters is 18, 282, 570 in Haryana whereas that in Maharashtra is 1,24,326,000.
The counting of votes will take place on Thursday. Conveying message to the electors, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “I urge voters in these states and seats to turnout in record numbers and enrich the festival of democracy.” The counting of votes will take place on Thursday.
