
Senior IAS officer Anil Kumar Jain is the new Coal Secretary as per a government order by the Appointments Committee.
According to a government order, Senior IAS officer Anil Kumar Jain, 1986-Batch officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre is the new Coal Secretary. He is currently the Secretary to Minister of Environment, Forest
and Climate Change.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Anil Kumar Jain, Special Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change as Secretary, Ministry of Coal, the order said.

Jain will be replacing Sumanta Chaudhuri, a 1985-Batch officer of West Bengal cadre. His tenure at the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change will end on October 22, 2019.

Jain has also been an additional secretary in Niti Ayog where he worked on the energy sector. He holds a BA (Honours) in Economics, a Diploma from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and an MBA.

He has authored several papers and articles on the energy sector as well as a book on natural gas policy framework in India. He is also a visiting senior research fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies.
