
Saurabh Kumar, 2009-Batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, has been appointed as the Private Secretary to Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister of Law and Justice and Communications and Electronics and Information Technology.
As per the official order issued, Kumar has been appointed for four years and 10 months tenure or on co-terminus basis with the minister or till he ceases to function as Private Secretary or until further orders.
Prior to this appointment, Kumar was appointed the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Prasad in March. He has earlier served as the Additional Private Secretary to Prasad. He has also served in the Ministry of Finance as the OSD to Special Secretary and Assistant Commissioner in the Department of Revenue.

As an IRS officer, Kumar has also held the post of Assistant Director, National Academy of Customs Excise and Narcotics.

The official appointments order issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by the Prime Minister also added that Kumar would revert to his cadre, Customs and Central Excise once his term as PS ends.

Kumar is an alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and has pursued MA in Sanskrit and Classical Indian Languages, Literature and Linguistics.
