Rajesh Aggarwal, a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, has been assigned the role of acting Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the National Insurance Company (NIC). It is his fourth appointment since February 2014 after the superannuation of former CMD, Chandraprasad.
In the wake of Prasad’s retirement, NIC Director and General Manager, A V Girija Kumar served as the acting Chief for a year. However, he was later shifted as General Manager to Chennai-based United India Insurance.

An interview was conducted by the UPA Government in order to select a CMD for the company and shortlisted the candidate as well. Despite that, as per the sources, the NDA Government is yet to finalise the name.
