The ‘Make in India’ portal has received about 4,896 queries, with highest enquires from food processing sector.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “With a total of 4,896 queries, the programme has garnered positive response so far. 9.3 per cent of queries relate to food processing, 6.7 per cent to IT, 6.1 per cent to renewable energy, 5.7 per cent to electronic system and designs, 4.7 per cent to automobiles and 4.4 per cent to textiles and garment sectors.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched “Make in India” initiative on 25 September. It aims to improve the Ease of Doing Business, open the FDI regime, improve the quality of infrastructure and make India a globally competitive manufacturing destination. The initiative has its origin in the Prime Minister’s Independence Day speech where he gave a clarion call to ‘Make in India’ and ‘Zero Defect; Zero Effect’ policy.
