The Jordan Government has launched its e-Government project to enhance Internet access in rural areas.
According to the Minister of Information and Communications Technology Omar Kurdi, finally the e-Government website would act as a one-stop gateway for the Government. The cost of the programme is approximately JD45 million, which will improve communication between ministries, citizens and businesses by providing Internet access. The Ministry is pushing e-Governance service as a tool to expand Internet access in rural areas. The Ministry is planning to install 5000 km of fibre optic cables to expand broadband Internet access to 3200 public schools, 23 community colleges and about 120 Internet knowledge stations by the end of this year. According to Hasan Hourani, director of the e-government programme, the ministry is giving training to 8000 government employees and managers for the use of e-Government project's website.
