Swiss Government to Issue Biometric Identity Cards

The Government of Switzerland would be introducing biometric identity Identity Cards by the year 2010. The cards will be electronically encoded with photo and fingerprints.

The new ID cards would be in the form of credit cards which are already in use for Swiss ID documents.

As reported by ePractice, biometric passports would be issued to its citizens by 2010 in Switzerland.

The cost of these new passport will be about CHF140 (about €87). A passport and an identity card would cost somewhere around CHF148 (about €92) for adults and CHF68 (about €42) for children.
