Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that the state government will soon introduce a social media policy to strengthen public communication and address the challenges of the digital era.

Speaking at a function on “Emerging Trends in Social Media” at Lok Seva Bhavan, Majhi said the Information and Public Relations Department would establish a seamless communication system and introduce strict fact-checking measures to tackle misinformation and rumours.
He stressed that government communication must be accurate, timely and easy to understand. He also urged information officers to adopt emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), and actively monitor social media to understand public opinion and identify people’s grievances.

Digital Communication:
Highlighting the growing threat of deepfakes, cloned voices, and AI-generated videos, the Chief Minister said information must be verified before sharing. He also encouraged officers to go beyond issuing press releases and use real-life stories to show how government schemes are improving people’s lives.

Chief Secretary Anu Garg said officers should communicate welfare initiatives honestly and with commitment, adding that accurate information would help strengthen public trust. Additional Chief Secretary Hemant Sharma highlighted the role of information officers in communicating government policies and development initiatives.
During the event, Majhi launched the e-Sanchar App, developed to make advertisement management more transparent. He also unveiled Lokasamparka, the Information Service Association’s annual magazine.
