The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) and state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in technology evaluation, development, transfer and commercialisation.
Focus on Moving Research Towards Industry
The partnership will create a structured process to identify technologies developed through ONGC’s research ecosystem and assess their potential for wider industrial use.
The collaboration is aimed at helping suitable innovations move beyond the research and pilot stages towards licensing, commercial deployment and industry adoption.
Complementary Expertise
NRDC will contribute its expertise in technology assessment, intellectual property management, licensing and commercialisation. ONGC, meanwhile, will bring its research capabilities and technical expertise in petroleum exploration and energy operations.
The MoU was exchanged by Commodore Amit Rastogi (Retd.), Chairman and Managing Director, NRDC, and Tarun Kumar Mathuria, Executive Director and Chief, Keshava Deva Malaviya Institute of Petroleum Exploration (KDMIPE), Dehradun.
ONGC Director (Exploration) Om Prakash Sinha and senior officials from both organisations were also present.
Role of KDMIPE
KDMIPE is ONGC’s research institute focused on petroleum exploration and subsurface studies. The partnership could provide a pathway for technologies developed at the institute to reach industry and find practical applications.
NRDC, under the Union Ministry of Science and Technology, works to connect publicly funded research with industry by supporting technology transfer and commercialisation.
Details Yet to Be Announced
The organisations have not yet disclosed which technologies will be taken up under the MoU. Details on investment, commercial targets, revenue-sharing arrangements and the duration of the agreement have also not been made public.
The success of the partnership will ultimately depend on how effectively technologies move from evaluation and development to field-level deployment and commercial adoption.
