Sumant Sahay, a 2016-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, has been appointed as Managing Director, West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation Limited (WBTDCL) and Director, Tourism, Government of West Bengal.
Sahay will hold both responsibilities, bringing the state’s tourism policy and implementation functions under closer coordination.
Focus on Tourism Development
In his dual role, Sahay will oversee the functioning of WBTDCL while also handling the state’s tourism administration.

The arrangement is expected to help improve coordination in tourism planning, infrastructure development and implementation of tourism initiatives across West Bengal.
Focus on Better Visitor Experience
The appointment also comes with an emphasis on strengthening tourism infrastructure and improving the overall experience for visitors.
