Manoj Kumar Dwivedi Appointed NDMC Chairperson

The Central Government has appointed Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1997 AGMUT cadre, as the new Chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

The appointment was notified by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Dwivedi will assume charge with immediate effect and continue in the post until further orders.

Takes Over Leadership of NDMC

Manoj Kumar Dwivedi succeeds Keshav Chandra, who was recently transferred and has taken over as Secretary, Ministry of Mines.


As Chairperson of the NDMC, Dwivedi will oversee the administration and civic services in the New Delhi Municipal Council area, which includes several key government institutions, diplomatic missions, and important public infrastructure.

Experienced Civil Servant

Before his appointment to the NDMC, Dwivedi was serving as Additional Secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.

Earlier in his career, he also served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, where he handled important policy and administrative responsibilities.

Strong Academic and Administrative Background

A 1997-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi is an alumnus of IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore.

During his tenure in Jammu and Kashmir, he was awarded the Lieutenant Governor’s Gold Medal for Integrity, Honesty and Meritorious Public Service, one of the highest recognitions given to a civil servant in the Union Territory.

Appointment Issued Under NDMC Act

The appointment has been made under the provisions of the New Delhi Municipal Council Act, 1994.

According to the official notification, Dwivedi will serve as Chairperson of the NDMC from the date he assumes charge and will continue in the position until further orders.

Focus on Urban Governance

With his extensive administrative experience across key ministries and the AGMUT cadre, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi is expected to strengthen civic administration and governance in the NDMC area. His appointment comes at a time when the council continues to focus on improving urban infrastructure, public services, and municipal administration in the national capital.
