Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Ankit Chauhan has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) under the Central Staffing Scheme, marking his transition from cadre service to a key position in the Central Government.
The appointment was approved following his recommendation for Central deputation by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). He will serve in the ministry for a period of four years from the date he assumes charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Appointment Under Central Staffing Scheme
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Ankit Chauhan, a 2013-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been selected for the post of Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
The appointment is part of the Central Staffing Scheme, through which experienced officers from the All India Services and Central Services are assigned to important positions in Union Government ministries and departments.
MHA Asked to Relieve Officer
The DoPT has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to relieve Chauhan of his present responsibilities at the earliest so that he can assume his new assignment in New Delhi without delay.
Once he joins the Ministry of Heavy Industries, he will become part of the ministry’s administrative leadership responsible for supporting policy implementation, inter-departmental coordination and governance-related functions.
Important Role in the Ministry
The Ministry of Heavy Industries plays a significant role in promoting industrial growth and manufacturing in the country. It oversees policies and programmes related to capital goods, heavy engineering industries, automobile manufacturing and industrial modernization.
As Deputy Secretary, Chauhan is expected to contribute to policy coordination, programme implementation, administrative decision-making and monitoring of projects handled by the ministry.
The role also involves close coordination with various government departments, public sector enterprises and industry stakeholders.
Experienced IPS Officer
Ankit Chauhan belongs to the 2013 batch of the Indian Police Service and the AGMUT cadre. During his service, he has handled various policing and administrative assignments before being selected for Central deputation.
His appointment reflects the Centre’s continued practice of drawing experienced officers from different services to strengthen policy formulation and administrative functions across ministries.

Strengthening Administrative Capacity
