India is set to take a major step towards strengthening its telecom manufacturing capabilities with the establishment of the country’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Government of Madhya Pradesh will formalise the initiative by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 30, 2026.
The project is expected to create a dedicated ecosystem for telecom equipment manufacturing, promote indigenous innovation and support the country’s vision of becoming a global technology and manufacturing hub.
Centre and Madhya Pradesh to Formalise Partnership
The MoU signing ceremony will be held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi and will mark the beginning of Phase-I of the Telecom Manufacturing Zone project.
The event will be attended by Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani.
Senior officials from the Central Government, the Madhya Pradesh Government and representatives from the telecom industry are also expected to participate.
First Dedicated Telecom Manufacturing Cluster
The proposed Telecom Manufacturing Zone will be the first specialised industrial cluster in India focused exclusively on telecom manufacturing.
The project aims to create a modern ecosystem for producing telecom equipment and next-generation communication technologies while encouraging research, innovation and product development.
Officials believe the initiative will help strengthen India’s domestic manufacturing base and reduce dependence on imported telecom equipment.
