The Gujarat government has launched the PM eBus Sewa scheme in Gandhinagar, marking a major step towards cleaner, smarter and more sustainable urban transportation. As part of the initiative, 40 fully air-conditioned electric buses have been introduced in the first phase to strengthen public transport and promote green mobility in the state capital.

The initiative forms part of the Centre’s nationwide programme to modernise urban transport through electric buses while reducing pollution and encouraging environmentally friendly commuting.
PM eBus Sewa to Promote Green Urban Mobility

The PM eBus Sewa scheme is a centrally sponsored initiative aimed at transforming public transport in cities through the deployment of electric buses. The programme has a total outlay of ₹57,613 crore, including ₹20,000 crore in support from the Central Government, and will be implemented through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

Under the scheme, around 10,000 electric buses will be introduced across various cities to improve urban mobility and reduce dependence on conventional fuel-based transport.

Gandhinagar Allocated 100 Electric Buses
Gandhinagar has been allotted 100 electric midi buses under the scheme to enhance connectivity across the city. The project is being implemented by Gandhinagar Greenline Transport Service Limited (GGTSL), a special purpose vehicle established by the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation.
In the first phase, 40 electric buses have begun operations, offering commuters a cleaner, quieter and more comfortable travel experience.
Modern Buses with Passenger-Friendly Features
Each electric bus is around nine metres long and has a capacity to accommodate 25 seated and 13 standing passengers.
The buses have been designed with passenger convenience and accessibility in mind. Key features include:
- Fully air-conditioned interiors
- Hydraulic ramps for persons with disabilities
- Reserved seating for women
- Reserved seating for senior citizens
These features aim to make public transport more inclusive and comfortable for daily commuters.
Digital Ticketing and Cashless Payments

Dedicated Charging and Maintenance Facility
To support the new fleet, a dedicated depot and charging station has been developed at Sargasan with an investment of around ₹17 crore.
The facility includes electric charging infrastructure, maintenance services and operational control systems to ensure smooth and uninterrupted functioning of the buses.
Expanded Connectivity Across the City
The new electric buses will operate on 18 routes, connecting important residential, commercial and institutional locations, including Secretariat, Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar Railway Station, GIFT City, IIT Gandhinagar, Kalol, Mansa, Dahegam and several other areas.
The network is expected to improve last-mile connectivity and make public transport more accessible across Gandhinagar.
Affordable Fares to Encourage Adoption
The fare structure has been kept affordable, with ticket prices ranging from ₹5 to ₹30, depending on the distance travelled.
To encourage residents to experience the new service, travel on all PM eBus Sewa routes will remain free for the first 15 days after launch. Children below five years of age will continue to travel free even after the promotional period.
