MCL, CIPET

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has strengthened its commitment towards youth skill development by partnering with the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Bhubaneswar, to provide industry-oriented technical training to young people from its operational regions. The initiative aims to improve employability and create long-term livelihood opportunities through structured vocational education.

The programme is being implemented under MCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and reflects the company’s focus on empowering local communities through education and skill development.

Two-Year Residential ITI Programme for Technical Training

Under the initiative, 40 selected candidates will undergo a two-year residential Industrial Training Institute (ITI) programme at CIPET Bhubaneswar.

The training batch includes:

  • 20 students in Electrician Trade
  • 20 students in Fitter Trade

Officials said the programme has been designed to combine classroom learning with practical technical exposure so that students acquire industry-relevant skills.

₹1.26 Crore Allocated Under CSR Support

MCL will provide financial assistance of ₹1.26 crore for the programme under its CSR framework.

The funding will cover:

  • Training costs
  • Food and accommodation
  • Residential facilities
  • Other associated educational expenses

The support aims to ensure that students can access quality technical training without financial barriers.

Sixth Batch Under MCL-CIPET Collaboration

This is the sixth batch of the ITI training programme being conducted through the partnership between MCL and CIPET Bhubaneswar.

Previous batches have shown encouraging outcomes:

  • Three batches covering 2021–23, 2022–24 and 2023–25 have already been completed
  • More than 97 candidates have secured employment opportunities
  • Two additional batches for 2024–26 and 2025–27 are currently underway

The continued expansion of the programme reflects its growing impact in creating skilled manpower.

Focus on Employment and Community Development

The initiative aims to support:

  • Skill development in coal-bearing regions
  • Industry-ready workforce creation
  • Inclusive socio-economic growth
  • Employment generation through vocational education

Officials believe such programmes can help bridge the gap between education and industry requirements while creating opportunities for youth in technical sectors.

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, continues to play an active role in community development through initiatives in education, healthcare, infrastructure and skill development.

Through partnerships like this, the company is working to create sustainable opportunities and strengthen socio-economic development in mining regions.
