India has taken another step toward expanding its clean energy ambitions, with Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh holding discussions with a high-level US industry delegation on private investment opportunities and deeper collaboration in the nuclear sector.

The meeting focused on emerging areas such as small modular reactors (SMRs), advanced nuclear technologies and industry partnerships, reflecting India’s growing emphasis on clean energy and next-generation nuclear capabilities.
Focus on Nuclear Expansion and Industry Participation

The delegation, comprising representatives from the Nuclear Energy Institute and the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum, met the minister in New Delhi to discuss India’s expanding Nuclear Energy Mission and recent policy reforms designed to encourage greater private sector participation.

Discussions centered around India’s long-term target of increasing nuclear power generation capacity from the current 8.8 GW to 100 GW by 2047 under the Viksit Bharat vision.
The talks also explored opportunities in:

- Technology partnerships
- Manufacturing collaboration
- Supply chain integration
- Advanced nuclear innovation
India-US Cooperation Gains Momentum
During the discussions, Dr. Jitendra Singh said India and the United States continue to strengthen cooperation across science, technology, clean energy and emerging sectors.
He highlighted that civil nuclear cooperation is steadily gaining strategic and economic significance for both countries.
The minister also referred to the India-US TRUST Initiative launched during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with former US President Donald Trump in 2025, noting that it had created new opportunities in critical and emerging technologies.

Push for Small Modular Reactors and Advanced Technologies
India is moving ahead with plans to develop Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), with an allocation of nearly ₹20,000 crore under its nuclear energy plans.
Officials noted significant opportunities for India-US collaboration in areas including:
- Micro-reactors
- AI-enabled nuclear safety systems
- Scientific computing
- Nuclear energy modelling
These technologies are expected to play an important role in the future of clean and efficient energy systems.
Key Bilateral Projects Also Reviewed
The discussions also reviewed progress on ongoing collaborative initiatives, including:
- Proposed AP1000 project at Kovvada
- Cooperation under the Indo-US Civil Nuclear Energy Working Group
- Rare earth partnerships
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning applications
- Scientific research collaborations
Officials also discussed developments related to the LIGO-India project, a major international scientific initiative involving Indian institutions and US partners.
Strengthening Future Energy Cooperation
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation in nuclear technology, advanced manufacturing, innovation and clean energy sectors.
