In a major step towards transparent and citizen-friendly governance, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is set to introduce a real-time case tracking system that will allow applicants to monitor the complete progress of their files online.

Announced by JDA Commissioner Siddharth Mahajan, the initiative aims to bring clarity and accountability to services such as lease issuance, name transfer, subdivision, and property reorganisation. For the first time, citizens will be able to see file movement, official remarks, and actions taken—reducing uncertainty and delays that have long been associated with urban administrative processes.

Calling it more than just a digital upgrade, Mahajan described the move as a “cultural shift” in governance. The system is designed to make every step visible and verifiable, ensuring that both applicants and officials are accountable throughout the process.

The reform directly addresses one of the biggest challenges faced by citizens—lack of visibility into file status. With this new system, applicants will no longer have to rely on follow-ups or intermediaries, as they can track progress in real time.

Alongside this, JDA is also strengthening its citizen engagement efforts. Feedback collected through social media platforms is being actively used to address issues such as traffic congestion and encroachments. A dedicated complaint portal is already in place, and a new dashboard—expected by the end of April—will enable senior officials to monitor action taken on complaints in real time.

Another key reform is the introduction of e-public hearings, allowing citizens to present their cases online. Officials will be required to record and justify their decisions, creating a transparent audit trail and reducing the chances of arbitrary actions.

The authority has also launched the “Samvad” initiative, which brings citizens, developers, and stakeholders together for direct dialogue with officials. This platform is helping resolve long-pending cases while identifying systemic bottlenecks.

Recognising the importance of awareness, JDA plans to roll out campaigns to educate citizens about legal and illegal properties. Additionally, newly elected rural representatives will be trained on JDA processes after the Panchayati Raj elections, ensuring smoother coordination as urban areas expand.

These reforms reflect a broader shift in how JDA approaches governance—from a traditional regulatory body to a service-oriented institution focused on transparency and responsiveness.

With real-time tracking, digital hearings, and stronger citizen engagement, Jaipur is taking a significant step towards modern urban governance—setting an example for cities across India.
