The Government of India has rolled out a fresh set of strategic reforms to strengthen the country’s telecom security framework, as India prepares for the next phase of digital expansion and emerging network technologies.

Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia said the reforms are aimed at creating a stronger and more industry-friendly security ecosystem while ensuring that telecom networks remain safe, reliable and future-ready.
One of the key changes includes extending the existing interim security certification framework till January 2026, allowing telecom equipment manufacturers to continue operations without disruption while formal testing processes are completed. Officials said this will help maintain supply continuity and prevent delays in network deployment.

The government has also reduced the application and processing charges for telecom security testing laboratories. This move is expected to encourage more participation from Indian startups, research institutions and women-led enterprises. Testing centres run by government agencies and academic institutions will receive additional fee relaxations to strengthen domestic testing capacity.

Another important reform involves simplifying security approval processes for broadband access devices used in homes and offices. By streamlining compliance requirements, authorities aim to shorten certification timelines and speed up the rollout of digital connectivity.

Officials said the reforms balance two critical objectives — strong network security and ease of doing business. They also support India’s broader goal of promoting indigenous telecom manufacturing and creating a trusted supply chain.
With these measures, the government is setting the foundation for secure, scalable and self-reliant telecom networks as India moves closer to 2026 and beyond.
