India’s cybersecurity sector has expanded significantly, now hosting over 400 startups and approximately 6.5 lakh professionals across industry, academia, government, and allied organisations, as disclosed by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), which is under the MeitY.

The growth is attributed to increasing digitisation across sectors, rising cyber threats, and sustained policy support.
This ecosystem includes firms engaged in domains such as endpoint security, network security, identity & access management, threat intelligence, managed security services, and emerging areas like AI-driven cybersecurity solutions. The talent pool spans roles in R&D, security operations centres (SOCs), forensic analysis, risk & compliance, and security architecture.

Industry stakeholders observe that while the ecosystem is scaling, challenges remain in fostering deeper research capabilities, bridging talent gaps in advanced areas (such as machine learning for security, quantum-safe crypto, and OT/ICS security), and enabling greater collaboration between startups, regulatory bodies, and public institutions.
The scale and depth of the cybersecurity ecosystem underline its growing importance in safeguarding digital infrastructure as India accelerates its digital initiatives and aims to become a trusted destination for secure technology innovation.
