Centre: UP Government Appoints Archana Agrawal as Additional Chief Secretary, Transport Department

In a pivotal administrative reshuffle, the Uttar Pradesh government has appointed 1990-batch IAS officer Archana Agrawal as the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) for the Transport Department. She has also been designated as the Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC). Agrawal returned to her parent cadre on October 16, 2025, after serving on central deputation since February 2016.

This appointment marks a notable development in the state’s governance, as the Transport Department will now be led by two women officers. Kinjal Singh assumed the role of Transport Commissioner in September 2025, further emphasising the government’s commitment to gender diversity in leadership positions.

Before her central deputation, Agrawal served as the Transport Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh during 2009–10. Her extensive experience in the transport sector is expected to bring valuable insights and leadership to the department.

In a related development, Amit Kumar Gupta, a 2000-batch IAS officer, has been relieved of his additional charge as Principal Secretary of the Transport Department and Chairman of UPSRTC. He will continue to serve as the Principal Secretary of the Stamps and Registration Department.

The Uttar Pradesh government’s focus on administrative efficiency and greater representation of women officers in key leadership roles underscores its commitment to enhancing governance and streamlining operations within the Transport Department.
