Mahakumbh 2025

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced ambitious plans for the upcoming Mahakumbh 2025, slated to take place in Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26. Addressing the Divya Mahakumbh-2025 program organized by a leading media group, the Chief Minister detailed extensive arrangements to accommodate a staggering 100 crore devotees over the 45-day event. This includes preparations for six crore devotees to take a holy dip on Mauni Amavasya, with facilities capable of supporting up to 10 crore visitors on that day alone.

A Mega Event with Advanced Facilities

The Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025 promises to combine spirituality with cutting-edge technology. The event will feature:

  • 12 kilometres of ghats for safe and comfortable access to the holy river.
  • An expanded area spanning 10,000 acres to host the massive influx of pilgrims.
  • Virtual experiences of Char Dham, Dwadash Jyotirlingas, and other sacred sites through modern innovations.
  • The use of an AI-based Bhashini app will provide information in 11 Indian languages, catering to a diverse audience. Services like Khoya-Paya, aimed at reuniting lost individuals, will also be integrated into the app.

The Chief Minister emphasized eco-friendly practices, including the installation of zero liquid discharge systems and the creation of 1.50 lakh toilets. A complete ban on single-use plastics will ensure the event remains sustainable, setting a benchmark for large-scale spiritual gatherings worldwide.

“This Mahakumbh will redefine standards for such events, offering a blend of faith, heritage, and modernity, while driving economic growth in Uttar Pradesh,” CM Yogi stated.

Reflecting on the Sambhal Massacre

In his address, CM Yogi raised the issue of the Sambhal massacre, a tragic event that occurred 46 years ago, resulting in the loss of innocent lives. Questioning why justice has not been served, he called for accountability and underscored the importance of preserving historical truths.

Highlighting Sambhal’s ancient temple, the Chief Minister spoke about its cultural and spiritual significance. The temple, known for its ancient idol of Bajrang Bali and the Jyotirlinga, stands as a testament to India’s enduring heritage. He criticized those who attempt to suppress or tarnish the truth of India’s past, noting that advocates of the country’s heritage often face threats and opposition.

Success of the 2019 Prayagraj Kumbh

The Chief Minister reflected on the remarkable transformation of the 2019 Prayagraj Kumbh, which broke stereotypes associated with such events. “From being linked to chaos and mismanagement, the Kumbh became a clean, safe, and well-organized affair,” he said. He credited the success to high standards of cleanliness, robust management, and enhanced security.

He also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s gesture of washing the feet of sanitation workers during the 2019 event as a mark of gratitude. This, he said, reflects India’s deep-rooted tradition of honouring contributors to its heritage.

“The Mahakumbh 2025 will continue this legacy, showcasing a confluence of faith, modernity, and gratitude,” the Chief Minister added.

Criticism of Opposition’s Stance on Heritage

Taking a swipe at opposition parties, CM Yogi accused them of monopolizing India’s legacy and selectively interpreting the nation’s history. He criticized their lack of acknowledgement of transformative events, such as the Supreme Court’s verdict on Shri Ram Janmabhoomi in 2019, which ended decades of dispute. He highlighted the threats faced by the judges who delivered the verdict as an example of efforts to intimidate truth-seekers.

He also questioned the opposition’s credibility in upholding constitutional values, citing instances where no-confidence motions and impeachment attempts were used to target impartial institutions like the Election Commission and the judiciary.

“Their frustration stems from their failure to deliver progress during their rule and our success in transforming Ayodhya, Kashi, and Prayagraj,” CM Yogi remarked.

Transforming Prayagraj into a Spiritual Hub

The Chief Minister outlined various infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing Prayagraj’s spiritual and modern appeal. Highlights include:

  • A permanent ghat at the Sangam and a modern riverfront along the Ganga.
  • Uninterrupted, clean water flow at the Sangam, and year-round access to the Akshayvat Corridor.
  • Completion of corridors for the Saraswati Koop, Bade Hanuman Ji Mandir, and Maharishi Bhardwaj Ashram.
  • Inauguration of a 56-foot-high statue of Lord Ram embracing Nishadraj in Shringverpur by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Major renovations to the Prayagraj airport and railway station.
  • Upgrading of over 216 roads, with enhancements ranging from single to double lanes, double to four lanes, and four to six lanes.

Development Tied to Heritage

CM Yogi attributed Ayodhya’s transformation to the construction of the Ram Temple, which he described as pivotal for the region’s progress. He criticized those who opposed the temple’s development, calling them disconnected from the common man’s aspirations.

“Without the Ram Temple, Ayodhya would not have seen its airport, double rail lines, or improved connectivity. While the public and devotees celebrate this progress, those who clandestinely inserted the word ‘secular’ into the Constitution now sit in their homes, lamenting,” he said.

The Chief Minister concluded by emphasizing the government’s commitment to blending spirituality with development. “Our aim is to create a Prayagraj that is both modern and deeply rooted in tradition, reflecting the true essence of India’s heritage,” he said.

A Vision for Unity and Progress

As preparations for Mahakumbh 2025 continue, CM Yogi Adityanath’s vision underscores a larger narrative of unity, cultural pride, and sustainable development. With cutting-edge infrastructure, eco-friendly practices, and a focus on spiritual tourism, the Mahakumbh is set to be a milestone in showcasing India’s heritage to the world.
