Sanjay A Lathkar Appointed DG (Security), Department of Atomic Energy

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed Sanjay A Lathkar, a 1995-batch Jharkhand cadre IPS officer, as Director General (Security) in the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).


The appointment was approved on September 15, 2026, with Lathkar set to hold the position until his superannuation on September 30, 2028, or until further orders.

Appointment at Level-16

Lathkar will serve as DG (Security) at Level-16 of the Pay Matrix. To facilitate the appointment, the existing post of Inspector General (Security), DAE has been temporarily upgraded from Level-14 to Level-16.


Earlier Role in Department of Atomic Energy

Lathkar was appointed Inspector General (Security), DAE, in the rank and pay of Additional Director General (ADG) on February 10, 2026. His tenure in the role was also fixed until September 30, 2028.


His latest appointment now places him at the senior-most level of the department’s security structure.

Responsibility for DAE Security

As DG (Security), Lathkar will oversee security-related functions within the Department of Atomic Energy. The role involves maintaining security arrangements for sensitive establishments, assets and infrastructure associated with India’s atomic energy sector.

Tenure Till September 2028

Lathkar will continue in the DG (Security) position until September 30, 2028, when he is scheduled to superannuate, unless the government issues further orders.

His appointment marks a higher-level continuation of his security responsibilities within the Department of Atomic Energy.
