Manoj Kumar Sharma has assumed charge as Director (Projects) of GAIL (India) Limited, bringing more than three decades of experience in hydrocarbon infrastructure, pipeline projects and project management.
The GAIL Board approved his appointment on September 18, following which he took charge of the new position.
Experience at Indian Oil
Before joining GAIL, Sharma was serving as Executive Director and Regional Head (Eastern Region Pipelines) at Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).
In that role, he oversaw operations and maintenance, construction and City Gas Distribution activities across five states, covering a pipeline network of more than 5,700 km.
Extensive Pipeline and Project Experience
Sharma has worked across several segments of the hydrocarbon infrastructure sector, including crude oil, petroleum products, LPG and natural gas pipelines.
His professional experience covers design and engineering, project management, procurement, construction management, operations and maintenance. He has also been involved in strategically important crude oil terminal projects.
Led Major Pipeline Projects
Earlier, Sharma served as Executive Director (Projects), Pipelines Division, IOCL, where he handled engineering, procurement and construction management for major oil, LPG and natural gas pipeline projects in India and overseas.
He has also served as a Nominee Director representing IOCL on the boards of GSPL India Transco Limited (GITL), GSPL India Gasnet Limited (GIGL) and Kochi Salem Pipeline Private Limited (KSPPL).

Academic Background
Sharma holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Production & Industrial Engineering) from Delhi College of Engineering and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB).
New Role at GAIL
As Director (Projects), Sharma will bring his experience in project execution, infrastructure development, operational management, business development and cost optimisation to GAIL.
His background in large-scale energy infrastructure projects is expected to support the company’s ongoing project activities and its focus on developing and expanding energy infrastructure.
