The Central Government has appointed Kumar Ravi Kant Singh (IAS:2008:Uttar Pradesh) as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The appointment has been approved under the Central Staffing Scheme for an overall tenure extending up to June 1, 2027.
A 2008-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Singh brings nearly two decades of administrative experience across state and central government assignments.
Moves to Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs
Before his latest appointment, Kumar Ravi Kant Singh was serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Military Affairs, Ministry of Defence, a position he assumed in August 2024.
With his new assignment in the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, he is expected to contribute to the implementation of key urban development programmes, housing initiatives and infrastructure projects being undertaken by the Centre.
Experienced Administrator with Diverse Exposure
Over the course of his career, Singh has served in a variety of administrative roles across Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India. His experience spans policy implementation, governance, financial management and public administration.
He has completed a Master of Arts (M.A.) and also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Finance, providing him with a strong academic foundation for handling complex administrative and policy-related responsibilities.
Originally from Bihar, Singh entered the Indian Administrative Service through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination as a direct recruit and has served in multiple leadership positions during his career.
Strengthening Urban Governance
The appointment comes at a time when the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs is overseeing several flagship programmes related to urban infrastructure, smart cities, affordable housing, sanitation and sustainable urban development.
