Ashok Barnwal appointed Officiating Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh

The Madhya Pradesh government has appointed senior IAS officer Ashok Barnwal as the state’s officiating Chief Secretary to ensure continuity in the administration.


Barnwal, a 1991-batch IAS officer, is currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary in the Public Health and Medical Education Department. He also holds additional responsibilities in the Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation Department and as Commissioner, Food Safety, Madhya Pradesh.

According to an order issued by the state’s General Administration Department on July 22, 2026, Barnwal will serve as Chief Secretary on a temporary basis until further orders.
