WT-MARUT

In a significant step towards strengthening India’s renewable energy ecosystem, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched the country’s first dedicated Wind Turbine Supply Chain Management Portal, named WT-MARUT. The platform aims to support domestic manufacturing, improve supply chain transparency and enhance India’s position in the global wind energy sector.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi unveiled the portal during the Global Wind Day Conference held in Goa, which brought together policymakers, industry leaders and stakeholders from across the wind energy value chain.

Dedicated Platform for Wind Supply Chain Management

WT-MARUT has been developed under the guidance of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy with support from the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA).

The portal is designed to create a more connected and efficient wind energy manufacturing ecosystem by helping manufacturers, suppliers and developers collaborate more effectively. It is expected to improve visibility across the supply chain and simplify the process of identifying qualified vendors and component suppliers.

Officials believe the platform will also help strengthen compliance with domestic sourcing norms and support the growth of indigenous manufacturing capabilities.

Supporting India’s Renewable Energy Goals

The launch comes at a time when India is witnessing strong momentum in wind energy development.

The country added a record 6.1 GW of wind power capacity during FY 2025-26, representing the highest annual addition recorded so far. The growth reflects increasing investments in renewable energy and the government’s focus on expanding clean power generation capacity.

India currently has more than 56 GW of installed wind energy capacity, making it one of the world’s leading wind power markets. However, experts note that a large portion of the country’s wind energy potential remains untapped, creating significant opportunities for future growth.

Strengthening Domestic Manufacturing

A major objective of the WT-MARUT portal is to support the development of a robust domestic supply chain for wind energy equipment.

The platform is expected to facilitate supplier discovery, improve coordination among stakeholders and help manufacturers identify opportunities for localization. By creating a stronger domestic ecosystem, the initiative aims to reduce supply chain challenges and enhance India’s manufacturing competitiveness.

The portal is also expected to assist companies in meeting quality standards and improving their readiness for international markets.

Growing Global Presence

Industry representatives highlighted that India is emerging as an important player in the global wind energy supply chain.

Recent industry assessments indicate that exports of wind turbines and related components have grown significantly, reflecting increasing international demand for products manufactured in India. The country’s manufacturing ecosystem has developed capabilities across key segments, including blades, towers, gearboxes and nacelles.

Industry experts believe India has the potential to expand its share in global wind equipment exports over the coming decades as international demand for renewable energy technologies continues to rise.

Wind Energy to Play Key Role in Energy Transition

Energy sector studies suggest that wind power will remain a crucial component of India’s clean energy strategy.

According to projections by leading energy institutions, the country will require substantial expansion of wind power capacity by 2030 to support rising electricity demand while reducing carbon emissions.

Industry leaders noted that India’s existing manufacturing base and technical expertise position the country well to accelerate capacity additions and support long-term renewable energy goals.

Industry Welcomes the Initiative

Speaking at the conference, industry representatives described the WT-MARUT portal as an important step toward building a more integrated and competitive wind energy ecosystem.

They emphasized that stronger collaboration between manufacturers, suppliers and policymakers will be essential for scaling up installations, improving supply chain resilience and strengthening India’s position in global clean energy markets.

Boost for India’s Clean Energy Future

The launch of WT-MARUT reflects the government’s broader efforts to promote self-reliance in renewable energy manufacturing while accelerating the country’s transition towards cleaner sources of power.
