The Karnataka government has carried out a fresh bureaucratic reshuffle, transferring four IAS officers and assigning new responsibilities across key administrative positions. Among the major decisions, senior IAS officer Harsh Gupta has been appointed Chairman of the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal, ending weeks of speculation over his next assignment.
The appointment comes more than a month after Gupta was transferred from the Health and Family Welfare Department without an immediate posting.
Harsh Gupta Gets Key Tribunal Role
According to the official notification, Harsh Gupta has been posted as Chairman of the Bengaluru-based Karnataka Appellate Tribunal with immediate effect.
He succeeds Thulasi Maddineni, who had been holding additional charge of the position.
A 1997-batch IAS officer of the Karnataka cadre, Harsh Gupta is regarded as one of the state’s experienced administrators and is known for his reform-driven approach in governance.
Transfer Marked 30th Posting in 28-Year Career
Gupta’s earlier transfer drew considerable attention as it marked the 30th transfer in his 28-year administrative journey.
During his tenure as Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, he played an important role in introducing reforms aimed at improving transparency and administrative efficiency.
Some of the key initiatives associated with his tenure included:
- Streamlining doctors’ transfer systems
- Introducing counselling-based posting mechanisms
- Administrative reforms in the health sector
These measures were widely viewed as efforts to create a more transparent and efficient governance framework.
Three Other IAS Officers Assigned New Roles
The same government order also announced new responsibilities for three additional IAS officers:
