Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the much-awaited ₹12,000-crore Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor, significantly reducing travel time between the two cities from over six hours to about 2.5 hours. The 213-kilometre-long, six-lane access-controlled expressway spans Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, and is expected to boost regional connectivity, trade, and tourism ahead of the Char Dham Yatra.
Ahead of the inauguration in Dehradun, the Prime Minister reviewed the 12-kilometre elevated wildlife corridor in Saharanpur—one of the longest in Asia—and offered prayers at the historic Dat Kali Temple. The project incorporates advanced traffic management systems, multiple interchanges, bridges, and dedicated public facilities to ensure seamless and efficient travel.
The corridor features an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) to enhance traffic monitoring and road safety. It includes several interchanges, railway overbridges, major bridges, and multiple wayside amenities for travellers. With over 100 underpasses and key connectivity points, the expressway integrates with major routes such as the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, ensuring smooth and seamless regional mobility.

Designed with a strong focus on sustainability, the corridor also features specialised wildlife crossings and underpasses to minimise human-animal conflict. Officials said the project reflects the government’s push for next-generation infrastructure that combines high-speed connectivity with environmental responsibility.
The corridor is expected to enhance economic activity by improving access to key tourism and economic centres, while opening new avenues for development across the region. During his visit, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to address a public gathering in Dehradun.
