In cities like Shanghai, obtaining a license for a personal vehicle can cost around ₹8–10 lakhs, often more than the cost of the vehicle itself. In contrast, the license fee for electric vehicles is significantly lower, at around ₹4 lakhs. As a result, over 50% of vehicles in Shanghai are electric. This clearly shows how effective policy decisions can drive large-scale change in mobility.

In many countries, a unified Ministry of Transport ensures cohesive planning, but in our case, despite significant progress on the ground, efforts often remain fragmented. While there are initiatives to integrate infrastructure across road, rail, water, and air, a lack of coordination between ministries leads to disconnected outcomes. To truly achieve integrated and safe mobility, we must move toward seamless interconnectivity backed by strong collaboration and a robust road safety culture.
