Public sector telecom and IT services provider RailTel Corporation of India Ltd has secured a ₹56.71 crore contract from the Government of Assam to implement a Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) across seven medical college hospitals in the state.
The project aims to digitise hospital operations and improve healthcare service delivery through an integrated digital platform. Under the agreement, RailTel will design, deploy and maintain the HMIS, which will streamline patient registration, clinical workflows, diagnostics, billing and hospital administration.
Officials said the new system will enable real-time access to patient records, reduce paperwork and improve coordination between departments, leading to faster and more transparent healthcare services. The platform will also support data-driven decision-making for hospital management and health authorities.
The seven medical college hospitals selected for the project serve large populations across different regions of Assam and are among the state’s key tertiary healthcare centres. Digitisation of these institutions is expected to significantly improve efficiency and patient experience.
An official familiar with the development said, “The HMIS will strengthen digital healthcare infrastructure and help hospitals deliver faster, more organised and accountable services.”
