The Kerala government has rolled out a ₹2,365 crore climate-resilient agriculture programme aimed at strengthening farm livelihoods and modernising agricultural value chains across the state.
Called the Kerala Climate Resilient Agri-Value Chain Modernisation Project (KERA), the initiative is designed to help around 32,000 farmers transition to farming practices that are better suited to changing climate conditions. The project focuses on improving productivity, reducing risk and increasing farmers’ income through structured support systems.
Under KERA, farmers will receive assistance in adopting climate-appropriate crop varieties, improved irrigation methods and modern cultivation techniques. The project also includes provisions for crop insurance coverage, post-harvest management, storage facilities and market linkage support to ensure better price realisation.
Officials said the programme aims to strengthen entire agricultural value chains rather than only focusing on crop production. By improving logistics, processing and marketing infrastructure, the government hopes to create a more resilient and efficient farm economy.
A senior agriculture department official said, “This project is about making Kerala’s farming systems future-ready while ensuring farmers are protected against climate-related risks.”

With implementation now underway, the government plans to roll out the project in phases across selected districts, closely monitoring outcomes to ensure that farmers benefit from improved productivity, stronger market access and long-term income stability.
