Domestic Manufacturing

The Indian government has approved 22 new electronics component manufacturing projects with a combined investment of approximately ₹42,000 crore, officials said on Tuesday. The move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen domestic electronics production and reduce reliance on imports.

The projects span key segments of the electronics value chain, including components essential for consumer devices, industrial equipment, telecommunications and automotive electronics. Authorities said the approvals reflect the increasing interest of manufacturers and investors in India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

Officials added that the new projects are expected to generate employment, enhance technology adoption and deepen local supply chains. The initiative is aligned with broader Make in India goals to build a resilient and globally competitive electronics industry.

The government’s incentives and policy support are designed to promote investment in capital equipment, product design and component fabrication. These measures aim to encourage companies to set up or expand manufacturing facilities in India, leveraging the country’s large market and skilled workforce.

An official involved in the approvals said, “The new projects will not only strengthen domestic capacity but also help reduce our dependence on imported components that are critical to multiple sectors of the economy.”

With project clearances now in place, implementing agencies and companies will begin preparatory work on land acquisition, infrastructure setup and equipment procurement. Officials said the focus will now shift to timely execution and integration with existing industrial clusters.
