Between FY23 and FY25, India added 220 new Global Capability Centres (GCCs), recording a 14% growth in just two years. The momentum shows no sign of slowing — TeamLease India projects the creation of 2.8–4 million new jobs by FY2030, with 14–22% of new hires expected to be digital-first freshers trained in AI, cloud computing, data engineering, and cybersecurity.
According to TeamLease’s latest report, “GCCs in India: Cultivating Capability, Ensuring Compliance,” the country now hosts over 1,800 GCCs, accounting for 55% of all such centres globally. These centres employ 1.9 million professionals and generated $64.6 billion in export revenue in FY25. Collectively, the GCC ecosystem supports 10.4 million jobs, including 2 million direct, 1.8 million allied, and 6.5 million induced roles, with average salaries 25–30% higher than the national average.
TeamLease Digital highlighted that India’s GCC network has become a key pillar of formal employment and skill development. Approximately 14–22% of new hires are digital-skilled freshers, while mid-level professionals constitute 76–86% of the workforce, driving innovation, product development, and digital transformation.
The study reveals that mid-sized GCCs employ over 210,000 professionals, comprising 20–22% entry-level hires, 75–77% mid-level specialists, and 2.5% leadership roles. Initially established as back-office support hubs, GCCs now serve as innovation and R&D engines, creating global-scale products, handling advanced analytics, and spearheading sustainability and compliance technologies for Fortune 500 companies.
However, this growth is accompanied by a complex regulatory environment. Each GCC must comply with over 500 distinct legal obligations, amounting to more than 2,000 annual compliance requirements across central, state, and local levels. These include mandates related to labour laws, taxation, environmental protection, data privacy, cybersecurity, FDI/FEMA, IP protection, and workplace safety.
The study underscores that a typical GCC in India navigates 537 unique legal obligations and over 2,051 total compliance requirements annually. The broader regulatory landscape spans 1,500 legislative acts and rules, resulting in around 69,000 distinct compliance obligations across multiple government layers.
Experts emphasise that GCCs must develop deep legal and compliance expertise, establish robust record-keeping systems, and integrate tech-enabled compliance solutions to manage this growing regulatory complexity. These obligations are spread across 27 compliance categories and monitored through 3,500+ government websites, underscoring the urgency for digital compliance transformation.
The report further highlights the growing influence of mid-market GCCs in Tier-2 cities, which are emerging as critical hubs in India’s capability ecosystem. These centres combine advanced digital functions with strong regional talent pipelines, supported by state policies promoting decentralised growth.
