CSC SPV Celebrates a Decade of Digital India

In a landmark celebration of Digital India’s 10-year journey, the Common Service Centre e-Governance Services India Limited (CSC SPV), operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), organised the CSC Diwas event at Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, Dwarka, New Delhi. The event, held on July 16, 2025, highlighted the progress of digital inclusion and community empowerment across rural India.

Gracing the occasion, Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, lauded the transformative role of Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) in bringing digital services to the grassroots. “VLEs have helped fulfil the dream of a digitally empowered India. Today, digital payments through UPI are more prevalent than global alternatives like Visa. This shows the true strength of 1.4 billion Indians,” he said.

In a major announcement, Shri Vaishnaw declared that 10 lakh citizens will receive free Artificial Intelligence (AI) training, with priority given to VLEs. He also encouraged VLEs to begin offering IRCTC services and assured that efforts would be made to integrate state IT agencies with the CSC network.

The Minister highlighted the inspiring journeys of women VLEs like Manjulata from Odisha and Rose Angelina M. Kharsyntiew from Meghalaya. Despite difficult terrains and limited infrastructure, these entrepreneurs have successfully delivered digital services to remote communities, setting new benchmarks in digital empowerment.

Shri Jitin Prasada, Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry and Electronics & Information Technology, emphasised the vast expansion of the CSC network—from 83,000 centres in 2014 to over 5.5 lakh in 2025. He underlined the importance of integrating Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) with CSCs to strengthen rural outreach. “Over 74,000 women VLEs are driving change across the country, contributing to a truly inclusive Digital India,” he added.

Speaking about the AI revolution, Shri Prasada stressed the need for capacity building, cybersecurity, and the use of emerging technologies in agriculture, healthcare, and education. He recommended expanding the scope of services offered by VLEs to include Update Client Lite and various state government services, thereby enhancing their revenue potential.

Shri Sanjay Rakesh, Managing Director & CEO of CSC SPV, welcomed the dignitaries and reiterated CSC’s role in last-mile service delivery. “In the last decade, CSCs have evolved into a model of empowerment and self-reliance, ensuring access to G2C and B2B services even in the most remote regions,” he said.

The CSC Diwas celebrations included a national-level conclave with IT Secretaries from all states, as well as local events across CSCs nationwide. Top-performing VLEs were honoured for their contributions to digital empowerment.

Launched in 2015, the Digital India initiative has revolutionised service delivery and financial inclusion. With over 5.5 lakh operational centres today, CSC SPV represents a global model for grassroots digitisation and citizen engagement.
