In a significant step toward fostering AI adoption in the public sector, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has launched a two-day training programme titled ‘Artificial Intelligence in Governance’ at the Department of Management Studies (DMS), IIT Delhi. The programme is scheduled from June 26 to 27, 2025.
The training was formally inaugurated by Shri Rajnish Kumar, COO & Director, NeGD, Shri Sunil Sharma, Director, NeGD, and Prof. Surya Prakash Singh, Head of Department, DMS, IIT Delhi. A total of 59 officers representing Central Ministries, State Departments, and other government institutions are participating in the initiative.
Conducted under the Capacity Building Scheme Phase III (CB Phase III) of the Digital India Programme, the workshop is designed to build the skills and understanding necessary to responsibly harness AI in governance. The curriculum covers a wide range of critical themes, including AI policy frameworks, ethical and legal considerations, digital transformation strategies, and practical applications of AI in public service delivery.
The programme is structured with a mix of interactive sessions and group exercises, aimed at contextualising AI use within participants’ specific departmental frameworks. By doing so, it bridges academic insights with actionable strategies for public administration.
“This training initiative reflects our commitment to equipping government officials with the tools and knowledge needed to drive India’s digital governance forward through ethical and strategic use of AI,” said NeGD leadership.
The Capacity Building team at NeGD, in collaboration with IIT Delhi, has designed this programme to balance academic depth with practical relevance, reinforcing India’s push for inclusive and future-ready public service infrastructure.
As AI continues to redefine the landscape of governance worldwide, such capacity-building efforts play a vital role in ensuring that India’s public institutions are equipped to lead technology-driven transformation with confidence and integrity.
