Nagpur to Host ₹8,000-Crore Helicopter Manufacturing Facility, Generating 2,000 Jobs by 2026

In a significant stride toward bolstering India’s aerospace capabilities, the Government of Maharashtra has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Max Aerospace & Aviation Pvt. Ltd. to establish a state-of-the-art helicopter manufacturing plant in Nagpur. With an estimated investment of ₹8,000 crore, the project is poised to not only elevate the state’s position in the aerospace sector but also create approximately 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities over the coming years.

The formal agreement was signed on Friday between Industries Secretary P. Anbalagan and Max Aerospace Chairman Bharat Malkani, in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other senior officials. As per the MoU, the facility will become operational by 2026 and will span the next eight years in phased development and production.

This will be Maharashtra’s first dedicated helicopter manufacturing facility and marks a major milestone in the state’s industrial development roadmap. The upcoming plant in Nagpur will serve as a Centre of Excellence for the customisation, integration, and flight testing of rotary-wing platforms. The facility is strategically located near Nagpur airport, enabling it to benefit from existing aviation infrastructure and efficient logistical networks.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, while addressing the gathering, expressed his optimism about the project and assured complete state support. “Max Aerospace’s decision to establish its manufacturing unit in Nagpur underlines Maharashtra’s growing potential as a hub for defence and aerospace manufacturing. The state government is committed to providing all required assistance to ensure the timely completion of this venture,” said Fadnavis.

Highlighting the significance of the region, the chief minister noted that Nagpur has already been equipped with a range of facilities conducive to defence production, making it a suitable choice for such a high-tech venture.

Bharat Malkani, chairman of Max Aerospace, emphasised his personal and professional commitment to the state. “As a Maharashtrian, I am proud to bring this project to Nagpur. The city offers a complete ecosystem for defence manufacturing, thanks to the state government’s proactive measures. This initiative will position Maharashtra as a frontrunner in India’s helicopter manufacturing sector,” he stated.

The helicopter manufacturing plant is expected to significantly contribute to India’s growing aerospace supply chain and reduce dependency on imported aviation components. It aligns with the national vision of self-reliance in defence manufacturing, particularly under the “Make in India” initiative.

With this development, Maharashtra is poised to play a central role in advancing India’s aerospace ambitions, offering a model for public-private collaboration and regional industrial growth. The project reflects a strategic alignment of industry expertise, government facilitation, and regional infrastructure to create a high-impact aerospace hub in central India.
