The Madhya Pradesh government is preparing to promote 21 officers to the prestigious IAS and IPS cadres in a major move to address the acute shortage of All India Services (AIS) officers. Of these, 16 officers from the State Administrative Service (SAS) are poised to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), while 5 from the State Police Service are expected to be inducted into the Indian Police Service (IPS). The promotions will be finalised following the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting to be convened by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), tentatively scheduled for the second week of June.
AIS Vacancies Prompt Accelerated Promotions

The urgency stems from a glaring vacancy in AIS posts across the state. As per official data, Madhya Pradesh currently has:

- IAS: 459 approved posts; 393 officers in service; 66 vacancies
- IPS: 319 approved posts; 271 officers in service; 48 vacancies
- IFS: 296 approved posts; 215 officers in service; 81 vacancies
This amounts to 195 vacant AIS posts, pushing the state government to expedite the promotion process through internal state services.

IAS Promotions: 16 Officers Finalised from SAS Panel

A panel of 48 officers from the SAS has been created to fill 16 IAS vacancies, covering promotions for both 2023 and 2024 in a consolidated DPC. The process, which faced delays last year, is now being fast-tracked. Although names from both SAS and non-SAS streams were considered, SAS officers raised objections against the inclusion of non-SAS candidates.
