New Delhi, May 9, 2025 — The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Häfele India Pvt. Ltd. formalised a landmark partnership on May 7, 2025, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at bolstering India’s manufacturing ecosystem. This collaboration marks a significant step toward promoting innovation, empowering startups, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and reinforcing the country’s localised supply chains.
The agreement underscores the shared vision of DPIIT and Häfele India to propel India’s transformation into a global manufacturing powerhouse. By fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, the partnership seeks to align with the national priorities under the ‘Make in India’ initiative and drive sustainable economic growth.
As part of this strategic alliance, Häfele India will spearhead a series of initiatives to foster product innovation, boost local sourcing, and strengthen entrepreneurship across the manufacturing landscape. The company plans to provide targeted investments, mentorship opportunities, and access to international value chains. These efforts are designed to enhance the competitiveness of Indian startups and MSMEs and integrate them more effectively into both domestic and global markets.
Häfele India has already demonstrated its commitment to the Indian ecosystem by investing over USD 2.5 million in an Indian appliance manufacturing startup. In addition, the company has extended purchase orders to Indian MSMEs engaged in producing architectural hardware and furniture fittings. Building on these efforts, Häfele will offer startups and MSMEs access to critical infrastructure, supplier development programs, technical collaboration, and expanded market opportunities.
On the government’s part, DPIIT will facilitate access to the broader startup ecosystem through the Startup India platform. This includes supporting startup connections, encouraging participation in key programs, and enabling co-branding initiatives to amplify the impact of this collaboration.
Commenting on the occasion, Shri Sanjiv, Joint Secretary at DPIIT, emphasised the importance of such collaborations: “The partnership with Häfele India exemplifies our approach of fostering collaborative industrial ecosystems. It brings together global best practices and local entrepreneurial energy to drive sustainable manufacturing growth aligned with the Make in India vision.”

The MoU was formally signed by Dr. Sumeet Jarangal, Director, DPIIT, and Mr. Frank Schloeder, Managing Director – South Asia, Häfele India, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations. The agreement will remain in effect for an initial period of two years, with provisions for extension upon mutual agreement.
