Patna, May 21: In a significant push toward urban transformation, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stones for 1,327 urban infrastructure development projects, collectively valued at Rs 1,002 crore. The projects are being implemented under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Urban Development Scheme (CMCUDS) by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (BUIDCo).
The official ceremony was held at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) near Gandhi Maidan in Patna. During the event, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the integration and automation of the city’s drainage pumping stations, a key component of the Patna Smart City initiative. This upgrade will allow real-time monitoring and efficient management of water drainage systems from the ICCC control room.

A short documentary, created by the Urban Development and Housing Department (UDHD), showcasing the scope and vision of the CMCUDS, was screened during the programme. A brochure detailing the scheme’s development strategies was also released by the Chief Minister.

Welcoming the CM at the venue, Urban Development and Housing Department Secretary Abhay Kumar Singh highlighted the scheme’s overarching aim of accelerating urban development in Bihar. Patna Municipal Corporation Commissioner Animesh Parashar also briefed the CM on project specifics and implementation plans.

The Chief Minister’s Office later issued a statement outlining the strategic intent of the scheme. Launched in July 2024, CMCUDS aims to bridge urban infrastructure gaps across Bihar’s 38 districts. Projects include the development and renovation of roads, modernisation of drainage systems, creation of parks, and beautification of local ponds and ghats.

To ensure focused implementation, district-level steering committees have been established under the leadership of the respective district in-charge ministers. These committees are responsible for prioritising developmental projects based on local needs and the urban population. BUIDCo has been appointed the nodal agency for executing all selected projects.
According to the official communique, a total allocation of Rs 400 crore has been made for the 2024–25 fiscal year, distributed across districts in proportion to their urban population. Out of the 1,327 projects, 624 are located in North Bihar, and 703 in South Bihar.
In North Bihar, administrative clearance has been granted for:
- 211 road development projects
- 97 drainage system improvements
- 215 combined road and drainage works
- 8 park development projects
- 56 street lighting upgrades
- 37 miscellaneous urban infrastructure works
In South Bihar, approved projects include:
