Telecom operator Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced the official launch of its 5G services in Chandigarh and Patna. Starting Monday, customers in these cities using 5G-enabled smartphones will be able to access the high-speed network, marking another step in Vi’s phased 5G rollout across the country.
This development comes shortly after Vi introduced its 5G network in Mumbai in March 2025. The company reported that over 70% of eligible users in Mumbai are already utilising 5G services, which now account for nearly 20% of the total data traffic in the city. Building on this momentum, Vi plans to expand 5G coverage to Delhi and Bengaluru in May.
As part of its promotional campaign, Vodafone Idea offers customers unlimited 5G data on recharge plans starting at ₹299. The telco aims to showcase the enhanced user experience 5G can deliver, ranging from faster downloads and seamless video streaming to improved gaming, virtual conferencing, and real-time access to cloud services.
In addition to city-wide rollouts, Vi has also prioritised high-traffic public venues. The company has already enabled 5G coverage in 11 major cricket stadiums across India, capitalising on the ongoing T20 cricket season to allow fans a faster and more immersive digital experience during matches.

Vi’s network deployment strategy emphasises both performance and sustainability. In Chandigarh and Patna, the company has collaborated with South Korean tech giant Samsung to implement advanced, energy-efficient infrastructure and virtualised RAN (vRAN) technologies. This partnership is expected to enhance both network flexibility and performance. Vi has also integrated AI-powered Self-Organising Network (SON) systems to optimise connectivity and minimise service disruptions.

Commenting on the launch, a Vodafone Idea spokesperson highlighted the company’s commitment to expanding its next-generation network in a phased and sustainable manner, ensuring robust service quality in each new location.
“The introduction of 5G services in Chandigarh and Patna is another key milestone in our nationwide rollout strategy. With the integration of cutting-edge technology and strategic partnerships, we are confident of delivering superior digital experiences to our customers,” the spokesperson said.
The 5G expansion comes at a time when smartphone users are increasingly upgrading to 5G-enabled devices, and demand for high-speed internet is surging. With competitive pricing and an aggressive rollout strategy, Vodafone Idea aims to regain market share in India’s intensely competitive telecom sector.
On the financial front, Vodafone Idea’s stock closed slightly lower on Monday, declining 0.13% to ₹7.46 per share. However, the stock has shown an upward trend over the past month, gaining nearly 9.5%.
