
In a major bureaucratic reshuffle in Karnataka, senior IAS officer Tushar Giri Nath (1993 batch, Karnataka cadre) has been appointed as the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Urban Development Department (UDD). The appointment follows the superannuation of Umashankar S.R. (IAS: 1993: KN), who officially retires today after serving as ACS, UDD and Administrator of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
Giri Nath, who was previously serving as Chief Commissioner of BBMP, has also been entrusted with concurrent charge of ACS, Home Department, and Administrator, BBMP—assignments that underscore the state government’s trust in his leadership during a critical phase of urban governance reforms.
In a related development, Maheshwar Rao M. (IAS: 1995: KN) has been appointed as the new Chief Commissioner of BBMP. He will concurrently continue as Managing Director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), a move aimed at ensuring seamless coordination between Bengaluru’s civic administration and its growing urban transit infrastructure.Karnataka: Tushar Giri Nath named ACS Urban, Maheshwar Rao M is New BBMP Chief.
