INOX Air Products, a leading industrial, electronic, and medical gas manufacturer in India, has commissioned its first green hydrogen manufacturing plant at Asahi India Glass Limited’s (AIS) facility in Soniyana, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. This milestone marks the first instance of green hydrogen being utilised in float glass manufacturing in India, supporting the industry’s shift towards sustainable production.
The newly commissioned plant is powered by solar energy and is designed to produce up to 190 tons of green hydrogen annually through electrolysis. Under a long-term agreement, AIS will receive a continuous supply of green hydrogen from INOX Air Products for the next 20 years.
This initiative represents a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions in industrial processes. In the initial phase, INOX Air Products will supply 95 tons of green hydrogen per annum to AIS. The use of this clean energy source is expected to lead to an annual reduction of approximately 1,250 tons of carbon dioxide emissions at the facility.
Siddharth Jain, Managing Director of INOX Air Products, emphasized the importance of this project in India’s journey toward decarbonization. “Green hydrogen is set to play a crucial role in the energy transition of our country. Our collaboration with AIS underscores our commitment to sustainable industrial practices and a cleaner environment,” he stated.

AIS, a prominent manufacturer of glass products, has made substantial investments in renewable energy infrastructure. The company has established a dedicated solar power plant to generate the electricity required for hydrogen production. Rupinder Shelly, Chief Operating Officer – Architectural Glass at AIS, highlighted the company’s sustainability efforts, stating, “With the commissioning of INOX Air Products’ green hydrogen plant at our facility, we are reinforcing our commitment to green energy. Our goal is to meet 94% of our power requirements through renewable sources, and this project is a significant step in that direction.”

The float glass manufacturing facility in Chittorgarh, developed by AIS in collaboration with AGC Europe, is aimed at producing high-quality glass for automotive and architectural applications. The adoption of green hydrogen in this process is expected to set a benchmark for the glass industry in India, encouraging further investments in sustainable energy solutions.
The commissioning of this green hydrogen plant is aligned with India’s broader strategy to promote clean energy adoption across industries. By integrating green hydrogen into manufacturing operations, INOX Air Products and AIS are contributing to the country’s ambitious decarbonization and sustainability goals.
