Imagine a village where darkness ruled after sunset. No electricity, no streetlights, and no access to television, news, or modern conveniences. Now, imagine that same village bathed in the glow of solar-powered lights, where children can study at night, farmers can irrigate their fields efficiently, and families can enjoy the simple pleasure of watching television together. This is not just a vision, it is the reality being created by the state’s ambitious solar energy initiatives in 2024 and beyond.

With a strong commitment to sustainability and rural development, the state government has made unprecedented strides in harnessing solar energy. From powering homes and schools to providing irrigation solutions for farmers, the impact of these initiatives is far-reaching.

EMPOWERING FARMERS WITH SOLAR IRRIGATION

Under the Solar Sujala Scheme, 6,674 solar pumps have been installed in 2024, providing irrigation support to nearly 8,000 hectares of agricultural land. This has not only improved productivity but also reduced dependence on costly and unreliable electricity or diesel-powered pumps. For thousands of farmers, solar irrigation has become a game-changer, ensuring year-round farming without interruptions.

SAFE DRINKING WATER THROUGH SOLAR POWER

Access to clean drinking water is a fundamental right. Thanks to the Jal Jeevan Mission, 5,930 solar drinking water pumps were installed in 2024, benefiting approximately 2.37 lakh families. These pumps are bringing relief to remote villages where traditional water sources were either inadequate or required strenuous efforts to fetch water.

BRINGING LIGHT TO SCHOOLS AND OFFICES

Education is the foundation of progress, and solar electrification of schools is making a direct impact on young minds. In 2024, 191 out of 193 targeted PM Shri Schools were equipped with solar energy, ensuring uninterrupted power for digital learning. Additionally, 340 solar power plants with a total capacity of 1,019.40 kW have been installed in government offices, schools, hostels, and healthcare centres, improving overall infrastructure and services.

LIGHTING UP STREETS AND PUBLIC SPACES

Public safety and convenience have been enhanced with the installation of 1,138 solar high-mast lights at key intersections and public places. No longer do people have to fear walking in darkness, these solar lights are improving visibility and security across cities and villages.

TRANSFORMING MAOIST-AFFECTED REGIONS

Development should reach every corner of society, including conflict-affected and remote areas. Under the Niyad Nellanar Yojana, solar irrigation and drinking water pumps are being installed in villages across Kanker, Narayanpur, Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada. Solar high-mast streetlights are also illuminating these regions, marking a new dawn of hope and stability.

In Sukma district, the highly sensitive and remote village of Puvarti received electricity for the first time in 78 years. Families there watched TV for the first time, enjoying news, cartoons, and movies, a moment of pure joy and transformation. For children, this was an introduction to a world beyond their village, fueling aspirations for a brighter future.

ELECTRIFYING TRIBAL HOMES

Under PM Janman Yojana, 1,578 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) homes across 173 settlements in 17 districts are being solar-electrified. Already, 210 PVTG homes in Kabirdham and Surguja districts now have 300-watt solar home lighting systems, ending their struggles with darkness and isolation.

This initiative is not just about electricity, it is about dignity, progress, and empowerment.

A HISTORIC RECOGNITION

The success of the PM Janman Yojana has gained national attention. The Hon’ble President of India will directly interact with three selected beneficiaries from the state during upcoming events. This milestone recognizes the government’s commitment to inclusive development and sustainable growth.

EMBRACING INNOVATION IN SOLAR ENERGY

Innovation is the key to sustainability. The government is integrating Remote Monitoring Systems (RMS) in solar pumps to track efficiency in real-time. A Solar Solution Mobile App allows villagers to report malfunctions and get quick solutions. GPS-based tracking ensures transparency in installation projects.

Entrepreneurs working on solar efficiency improvements are being encouraged to participate in state solar projects, driving economic growth while promoting renewable energy.

A BRIGHTER TOMORROW FOR ALL

The solar revolution unfolding in the state is more than just a technological advancement, it is a movement towards empowerment, sustainability, and progress. By harnessing the power of the sun, rural communities are gaining independence, farmers are becoming more productive, and children are stepping into a future filled with opportunities. As we move towards 2025, these initiatives will continue to light up homes, schools, streets, and minds, ensuring that every citizen, no matter how remote their village, has access to a brighter, more sustainable future.
