Shri Parrag Jaiin Nainutia, IAS, Principal Secretary, Directorate of Information & Technology, General Administration Department, Government of Maharashtra shares insights on the state’s IT initiatives and vision for a digitally empowered Maharashtra.
As the Principal Secretary of IT for Maharashtra, what are your primary goals and initiatives to drive technological advancement and innovation within the state?
How do you envision leveraging IT to address key challenges Maharashtra faces, such as infrastructure development, healthcare, and education? We are focusing on building a robust IT infrastructure that can support healthcare, education, and infrastructure development initiatives. For instance, we are enhancing telemedicine services and implementing data analytics to improve patient outcomes in healthcare. In education, our goal is to expand digital classrooms and e-learning platforms, ensuring that quality education reaches even the most remote areas. Our IT initiatives are also geared towards streamlining infrastructure projects through realtime monitoring and advanced project management tools, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.

Can you share some recent successful IT projects or implementations that have significantly impacted the state’s governance or citizen services?

One of our most successful initiatives is the MAHAIT Aaple Sarkar platform, which has revolutionised how citizens interact with government services. Through this platform, we’ve been able to digitise over 400 services, making them accessible online, thereby reducing the need for physical visits to government offices. Another significant project is the MahaDBT portal, which has streamlined the process of direct benefit transfers to millions of beneficiaries, ensuring transparency and efficiency in the distribution of government subsidies and scholarships. These projects have not only improved governance but have also enhanced citizen satisfaction by making services more accessible and userfriendly.

In what ways do you collaborate with other government departments and stakeholders to ensure effective integration and utilization of IT solutions across various sectors?
Collaboration is key to the successful implementation of IT projects. We work closely with various departments to understand their specific needs and challenges. This involves regular consultations and workshops to align our IT strategies with the broader goals of different sectors. We also partner with private sector players and academic institutions to bring in the latest technology and expertise, ensuring that our solutions are both innovative and practical.
